Nick Names: Floyd was well known as "Buck" and more so "Pops".
Occupations: Floyd began his employment working on area farms in the Leamington area. Next, he worked for the Heinz Factory in Leamington. One of his jobs in the factory was making pickles. Once I wanted to make dill pickles and Papa made them with me the way he made dill pickles for Heinz. Then he moved to Windsor and drove street cars (see pictures above of Floyd in his Street Car Uniform). Then when the buses came to Windsor Floyd then drove the buses. Floyd quit driving the buses and became self-employed when opening his first confectionary store on the corner of Adnac Street and Cambell Avenue, Windsor, Ontario, Canada. About 1942/43 Floyd moved his small family to Amherstburg and opened the Green Lantern Restaurant. In 1947 Floyd and his family moved on to the Town of Essex where he opened the Esquire Grill Restaurant.
Then in 1951/52, taking his Equire Grill sign Floyd moved his small family back to Windsor. He then opened a new Esquire Grill on London Street (now named University Avenue) between Curry and McKay Streets (Closer to McKay) of which consisted of a Bakery, and a light lunch counter. This is when Floyd learned to bake and he became a terrific baker. I must meantion too that Thelma his wife worked along with him at the restaurants. She must have taught him to bake. I remember all those cookies, pies, cakes, etc. and also her lunches, dinners, delicious! Next door to their Esquire Grill was a Nic Nac shop owned by Thelma's sister Edna Crouchman "Moore" "McNally" After some time, leaving the restaurant/bakery business Floyd then opened a Confectionary store on Wyandotte Street West, on the north side corner of Curry. This was where he became known as Pops. In January/February, 1958 Floyd moved his Confectionary business to the south corner of Girardot and California Streets. This building had the house and store attached. Therefore the house was on Girardot and the store 1108 California. He named his store, Buchanan's Confectionary which was also well known in the Bridgeview area as Pops. It was in about May/June 1968 that Floyd went into retirement and his son-in-law Blaise bought the business from him and also the building from it's owners Vincinty, Jean Halik. As Floyd was living in the apartment Blaise Built for him in the apartment ready basement Floyd would come up into the store and relieve Blaise at various times. To this day Floyd is well known by the older Bridgeview residents as Pops as well as his son-in-law Blaise as Blaiser.
